Coachella Valley Adds Wright for Third Professional Season
The Coachella Valley Firebirds announced today that the team has re-signed defenseman Charlie Wright to a one-year American Hockey League contract.
Wright, 22, returns to the Firebirds for his third season with the organization after appearing in 46 regular season games and six Calder Cup Playoff contests with Coachella Valley during the 2025-26 campaign. The Olds, AB native joined the ECHL’s Kansas City Mavericks following the Firebirds’ postseason run, appearing in 12 regular season games, helping the Mavericks advance to the Kelly Cup Final.
Wright has appeared in 67 career American Hockey League regular season games, all with Coachella Valley. Wright has also skated in 47 career ECHL regular season games with the Kansas City Mavericks, recording 21 points (five goals, 16 assists) and played in six Kelly Cup Finals contests.
Prior to his professional career, Wright spent five seasons with the Western Hockey League’s Saskatoon Blades, totaling 104 points (15 goals, 89 assists) in 256 regular season games. Wright was named to the WHL East Division Second All-Star Team following the 2023-24 season. While in Saskatoon, Wright was coached by current Firebirds Assistant Coach Brennan Sonne.
