Coachella Valley Sees Four-Game Point Streak Come to an End in Shutout Loss
The Coachella Valley Firebirds (2-1-2-0) fell to the Henderson Silver Knights on Wednesday night at Lee’s Family Forum by the final score of 4-0. Coachella Valley outshot Henderson 26-25, but three powerplay goals from the Silver Knights helped snap the Firebirds’ four-game point streak to open the 2026-27 season.
Henderson opened the scoring at 9:09 of the first period as Matyas Sapovaliv netted his first goal of the season on the play, assisted by Ville Heinola and Alexander Holtz on a unfortunate bounce off the high glass behind the net. The Silver Knights carried the 1-0 advantage into the first intermission.
Sapovaliv doubled Henderson’s lead at 12:12 of the second period with his second powerplay goal of the night, once again assisted by Heinola and Holtz. The Silver Knights extended their advantage to 3-0 at 18:13 as Holtz scored on the man advantage, with assists from Heinola and Ben Hemmerling.
Henderson added its fourth goal at 10:42 of the third period when Joe Fleming converted on a penalty shot while the Silver Knights were shorthanded, securing the 4-0 victory.
Coachella Valley generated 11 shots in the third period but was unable to solve Henderson goaltender Carl Lindbom, who stopped all 26 shots he faced to earn the shutout.
The Firebirds outshot the Silver Knights, 26-25, but finished 0-for-7 on the powerplay. Henderson went 3-for-6 with the man advantage. Coachella Valley goaltender Nikke Kokko made 21 saves on 25 shots in the loss.
